Part 2: The Four Heirs Who Vanished

At 6:42 the next morning…

A nurse screamed.

The sound echoed through the entire maternity ward.

“The babies are gone!”

Within minutes, the VIP floor was in chaos.

Doctors ran.

Security guards sealed every exit.

The hospital director turned pale.

No one could explain how four newborns had disappeared without a trace.

Adrian arrived ten minutes later.

He pushed through the crowd.

“What happened?”

The head nurse could barely speak.

“Mr. Foster…”

“The quadruplets…”

“They’re gone.”

His face went white.

“What do you mean gone?”

“The incubators are empty.”

He ran into the nursery.

Four incubators.

Four monitors still blinking.

Four tiny blankets.

No babies.

His breathing became uneven.

“Where’s Maya?”

A nurse hesitated.

“Mrs. Lin checked herself out during the night.”

“What?”

“She signed the discharge papers.”

Adrian grabbed the clipboard.

The signature was unmistakable.

Maya Lin.

His phone rang.

It was Isabella.

“Adrian…”

“Have you found the babies?”

He hung up without answering.

For the first time…

Nothing else mattered.

The Foster family gathered that afternoon.

His grandfather slammed his cane onto the floor.

“You divorced the woman…”

“…the day she gave birth?”

Silence.

His mother whispered,

“Where are my grandsons?”

No one answered.

Meanwhile…

Several hundred miles away…

I watched my four sons sleeping peacefully in a private neonatal center overseas.

Doctors surrounded them.

One smiled.

“They’re healthy.”

“They’ll need observation…”

“…but they’re safe.”

I finally let myself cry.

Not from sadness.

From relief.

Sophie handed me a cup of tea.

“Any regrets?”

I looked through the glass at my sons.

“No.”

“I regret staying three years.”

“I don’t regret leaving.”

Three days later…

Every television station carried the same headline.

FOUR FOSTER HEIRS MISSING

The reward for information reached fifty million dollars.

Private investigators.

Interpol requests.

Corporate security firms.

Adrian searched everywhere.

Nothing.

Then…

A package arrived at Foster Group headquarters.

Inside was a USB drive.

Only one video.

Adrian played it immediately.

The screen lit up.

I appeared sitting in a simple chair.

Pale.

Still recovering.

But smiling.

“Hello, Adrian.”

He leaned closer.

“The babies are alive.”

“You don’t need to waste another dollar looking for them.”

“You won’t find us.”

His fists clenched.

“Maya…”

The recording continued.

“You told Isabella that our children wouldn’t need me.”

“You were right.”

“They don’t need the version of me you created.”

“They need the woman who finally learned to protect them.”

The video paused briefly.

Then four tiny cries could be heard off-camera.

I smiled instinctively.

“I have to go.”

“They’re hungry.”

“Funny, isn’t it?”

“You spent five hundred million buying my silence.”

“And with that same money…”

“I bought our freedom.”

The video ended.

Adrian watched it again.

And again.

And again.

Until the office was dark.

For the first time…

He understood what he’d truly lost.

Not an obedient wife.

Not a contract.

Not even his heirs.

He had lost the only person who had ever loved him without asking for anything in return.

Five years later…

The Foster Group hosted its annual shareholders’ meeting.

Reporters crowded the entrance.

Suddenly…

Four little boys stepped out of a black car.

They looked almost identical.

Dark hair.

Gray eyes.

Each wearing a navy-blue suit.

Behind them walked a woman in white.

Confident.

Elegant.

No longer the frightened Maya who had signed divorce papers from a hospital bed.

A reporter gasped.

“Those children…”

“They look exactly like Adrian Foster.”

The oldest boy looked up at me.

“Mom.”

“Is that the man everyone keeps talking about?”

I squeezed his hand gently.

“Yes.”

He glanced toward Adrian.

Then back at me.

“Do we have to talk to him?”

I smiled.

“No.”

“You never have to speak to anyone simply because they share your blood.”

The four boys nodded together.

And as they walked beside me toward the building…

Adrian remained frozen on the steps.

Five years earlier…

He believed five hundred million was enough to buy a wife.

Now he understood something money could never purchase.

A mother willing to lose everything…

…to make sure her children would never grow up believing they were anyone’s property.
